Volunteering at WEECE
Volunteering is and has always been a very important part of our NGO. Through our volunteers we get new ideas for projects, great additions to existing projects and of course highly motivated new team members. You can find experience reports below that show what it´s like to work with us andgive you an insight on the kind of work you can do.
How do I volunteer at WEECE?
There are two different ways you can start volunteering with us:

-
Get in contact directly with us via email (weece2003@yahoo.com)
You can tell us a little bit about yourself and the timeframe you want to spend with us. We will then organize everything needed for your stay and work here.
We can also organize day trips, safaris and a tour to Kilimanjaro for you. -
Volunteer via World Unite.
You may have heard about this for-profit organization. World Unite offers a variety of services, including volunteering. Via the link below you can see their webpage about WEECE and you will find every information you need.

What will you do as a volunteer?
Work with VICOBA members
Helping WEECE become bigger
A big part of the work at WEECE consists of working together with and helping VICOBA members. This often means planing their next investment or helping with problems at their existing businesses.
WEECE, as every NGO, is never fully developed. Helping us to grow and become more visible is always needed. This website for example, was made by volunteers.
...And a lot more different things
Since the main focus is to help women, there are many other ways you can integrate yourself at the NGO. E.g., you can help teach at the classes given at the office, help out at the daycare centre, or even find new ways to help women around Moshi.

Stayed from October 2022 until February 2023
I have volunteered for 4 months at WEECE, and I enjoyed every day of it. I was welcomed wholeheartedly and from the first day I was seen as a part of the team. Mama Mrema told me everything there is to know about the NGO, it´s history and the ongoing projects, meaning after the first day I was up to date and involved in every part. Working together with mostly James, I got to see a lot of the countryside, the culture and most importantly the people. Our work consisted of a lot of visits to VICOBA members, where they explained their (planned) businesses and we talked to them about their challenges. Being able to exchange ideas and helping them in their business and their difficulties was a wonderful experience. I was able to do a lot of different things at work. E.g., I helped building a chicken shed Maasai style, overhauled the bookkeeping of a shop owner, and made several budget plans for investments.
Apart from the work I was integrated into the culture and city thrugh Mama and my colleagues, meaning going out on weekends, and even being invited to a wedding of Mamas friend. Climbing the Kili, going on Safari and relaxing on Zanzibar were also very memorable experiences during my stay in Tanzania.

Stayed from January 2023 until March 2023
It was such a great experience! I was here at WEECE for 7 weeks. I learned so much about the cultural life of the local village people and also the projects of the organisation WEECE. On the first day, Mama Mrema took much time to explain and introduce me to everything. Sure, it was much information but over the coming weeks I could see how it worked in real. The language was no issue, since James translated everything to English.
Besides seeing a lot of projects I also did some very interesting office work. For example, I worked on the new webpage and the Airbnb profile of the WEECE homestay. In summary, it was a very exciting time which I experienced here. I will have much to share at home to friends, family and colleagues.
